Exploring Gathering at 50 Years
What Is Gathering?
This Exploring section celebrates the 50 year history of Gathering (print magazine and online). Hear from previous editors and music editors. Discover the history of this resource. And celebrate with us the 50 years of sharing worship resources.....
Gathering is a worship resource in two parts: the print magazine, Gathering, is published four times a year, and GatheringWorship.ca, the companion to the print resource, is updated year-round to include additional resources and bonus material for each issue. If you subscribe to Gathering, you automatically have access to both resources. Gathering Worship is used in United Churches and other denominations across Canada, as well as regularly in five other countries: the United States, Bermuda, Great Britain, New Zealand, and Australia. We have also had subscribers from Japan, Nicaragua,Guyana, the Philippines, Ireland, Jamaica, and Thailand.
“The most effective worship is that which is home grown, i.e., emerges naturally out of a congregation or small group.” —John Ambrose, Special Assistant–Worship, 1974
“Gathering has a nice double meaning. In the first place, it suggests…a gathering of worship resources. But more important, it suggests the event the resources are intended to serve: the gathering of the faithful to worship.” —Fred McNally, Special Assistant-Worship, 1983
