Today We Have Witnessed a Trial that Was a Joke: A Commissioning or Sending Forth
Today we have witnessed a trial that was a joke.
We will strive for justice.
(time of silence)
Today we witnessed Jesus being stripped of his clothes and his dignity.
We will call for dignity and equality.
(time of silence)
We watched as Jesus was mocked and insulted.
We will challenge bullying and abuse.
(time of silence)
Jesus was nailed to a cross.
We will offer compassion and care.
(time of silence)
We noticed that his best friends were fearful and failed him.
We want to stay loyal but we know that our own fears can hold us back.
(time of silence)
Today we have received once again the story of Jesus’ death. It stirs in us a commitment to justice and compassion. Let us hold on to that commitment, supporting one another when the way is difficult, trusting that God is with us always.
