Lot's Wife

After the reading of Genesis 19:12–29, this story is told from the point of view of a person for whom the story of Lot’s wife resonates. It could be personalized in certain sections to fit your own story and telling.

Today I call on the spirit of a woman whose name we do not know. One of many whose bodies have gone the way of all flesh, the honourable, sacred way of our kind, who have become one with the earth, who have salted the soil with their blood and their bones, yet whose essence remains; strong and silent pillars keeping watch over sacred memory..... Note: This story could be connected with the need to look back and give witness to what happened to Indigenous children in Residential Institutions. Some White people say, “Can’t they just get over it?” Yet, there is no healing unless there is a looking back, a remembering, a telling of stories, and an honouring of the lives so tragically cut short. There is no truth and reconciliation without looking back.
